VERGE | The Green Horizon: Finland’s Innovations for a Sustainable Future

In 2025, Finland stands at a pivotal moment in its sustainability journey. With a legally binding commitment to reach carbon neutrality by 2035, the country is accelerating change across energy, materials, mobility, and urban development. Verge | The Green Horizon brings together entrepreneurs, researchers, corporate leaders, and policymakers who are not only asking what comes next — they’re building it. Through panels, keynotes, and workshops, the event will explore the innovations, policies, and business models that can turn climate ambition into action.

From advances in clean energy and electrification to breakthroughs in circular design, nature-based solutions, and AI-powered climate tools, the program highlights how innovation and collaboration can drive both ecological resilience and economic renewal. As Dr. Juha Niemelä of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has noted, Finland has a clear and achievable roadmap to carbon neutrality — but reaching it will require collective acceleration across public and private sectors. Verge | The Green Horizon is designed for business leaders, founders, climate professionals, investors, and anyone committed to building a more sustainable future.

Opening Keynote - Finland’s Chance of a Lifetime: Turning Climate Ambition into Action

As Finland races toward its legally binding goal of carbon neutrality by 2035, the country stands at a crossroads. Tremendous progress has already been made in clean energy, industry, and cities — but achieving the next leap will require more than innovation alone. It will take courage, urgency, and decisive action across public and private sectors.

In this keynote, Helena Sarén, Mission Lead for Zero Carbon Future at Business Finland, will argue that Finland has a unique opportunity to lead the world as a test lab for sustainable innovation and competitiveness. The question is whether we can move fast enough to seize it. Her message is clear: now is the time to accelerate, scale, and show how Finland can make climate neutrality not just a target, but a driver of long-term growth. The future well-being in Finland greatly depends on Finland’s global carbon handprint created by internationally competitive companies.
